Svendsen's Boat Works

For half a century the Bay's default haul-out and chandlery, founded by a Danish emigrant who also moulded the Bay's first fibreglass Folkboat.

Svend Svendsen, born Denmark 1932, emigrated 1956, died 27 May 2013

Founded

1963 at Pacific Marina, Alameda, with his wife Suzanne; moved 1966 to what became Alameda Marina

Folkboat

Built the first fibreglass Folkboat on the Bay in 1975 from a mould taken off a wooden hull

Later

Sold to Bay Maritime Corp. in 2016; a 'Svendsen Maritime Park' has been proposed
