P.I.C. Class

Pacific Inter-Club, 1936 — not a boat called 'Pic'

The 'Pic' in the 1954 list is not a name but an initialism: P.I.C., for Pacific Inter-Club. The class was fostered by the same association that commissioned the Bird.

Name
P.I.C. — Pacific Inter-Club
Sponsor
The Pacific Inter-Club Yachting Association, formed 1896, which by its own account 'fostered and encouraged building of the Bird, Star and PIC (1936) class sloops'
Introduced
1936
Boats recorded
Vandal (1949, 1954); Pic-Sea (1953); Angel (1954)
Sourcing notes & unresolved questions
  • No designer or builder was recovered despite searching Yachting from 1936 to the mid-1950s. That the P.I.C. and the Bird share a sponsor in the P.I.Y.A. is suggestive but proves nothing about authorship.
